Inspired By Laura

I remember loving Halloween as a little girl. Now, not so much. Back in the day, before the holiday got hijacked by adults, Halloween was all about fun costumes and candy. My mother was so creative in the costume department. She sewed some amazing creations! Winne The Pooh, Indian Girl, Tiger, and Scarecrow were a few that come to mind. But my favorite costume of all was the year that I dressed up as Laura Ingalls Wilder.

It was the seventies, and Little House on the Prairie was our favorite television program. Tell me, who didn't love Ma and Pa Ingall? Mom made the calico dress and matching muslin apron and bonnet. I wore that dress for Halloween, and for just about every day after that, too. My father had built me a small playhouse in the back yard, and it was the perfect spot for creative play and imagination.

My little Sam is so much like me in so many ways. He also loves to dress in costume and spend hours pretending in the world of make believe. I try to encourage these magic years of creativity and wonder. They are so short and sweet.

When I found this paper from We R Memory Keepers, this sweet floral print reminded me of my little brown calico dress. It's crazy how a paper can make us so happy, isn't it? Add a doily, mix in some ribbon, and a dollop of stamped images from PTI, and I have the perfect recipe for happy. And that is something to be thankful for!

I love the thankful season of November, don't you? Thankful for the harvest, thankful for warm coffee and my fireplace, thankful for good books and a good dog at my feet. So thankful for my friends here at the cafe (bless you for your sweet words and encouragement!). Thankful for my mom and sisters, who are coming to visit this weekend, at I time when I need them most! And today, I am so thankful for my God, who brings me comfort.

Thanks for stopping by the cafe today!

  1. THis is so sweet...my daughter had a prairie dress too! It got passed down to several cousins. Your card is a special reminded and very pretty--and yes, paper does make up happy!

  2. I needed sister time too. Thank you for a wonderful weekend. You know what? I think if you squeeze yourself into that dress...you'd still look just like "half-pint"...love you.
