Perfect Timing

Luke and I had a good discussion yesterday about God's timing. I had read the statement recently that trusting in God means trusting in His timing.

"Ooh, that's tough to follow," Luke said.

I know what he means!

I want to trust that God will get things done on my timetable. Now, Lord! NOW!

But that isn't trusting as much as it is demanding and pouting, like a toddler throwing a temper tantrum in the toy aisle at Target. Been there, done that!

I can wait for a lot of things. I can wait for my latte in the Starbucks drive thru. I can wait for a load of laundry to get done. I can wait for another day to go to the grocery store (but that's not waiting as much as procrastinating!).

But waiting on the Lord is hard. Waiting for His plan for you is even harder.

I read this verse from Habakkuk to Luke yesterday:

"Then the LORD replied...For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay." Hab. 2:3

I walk a fine line between waiting and procrastinating. There are things that I've been putting off for another day. A new job? I can put that off until the new school year starts. Writing? Just not "feeling" it. A new ministry? Just not feeling "called". I think I'll wait until something better comes up.

But the truth is, I've been a little selfish...with my time, with my money, with my resources. I'm just tired and weary. Waiting will do that to a soul.

I'm praying for revelation now. It will come. In the meantime, I'll try to find some opportunities to do a little good.

"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers." Galatians 6:9, 10

  1. Hearing the call...responding to the call...finally doing the work God called you to do and doing it well...I think that was all happening right there on your porch! I love you...give Luke a hug for me.
