Summer Reading

Happy June, my friends!

Have you compiled a summer reading list yet? I confess...I make a lot of trips to my local library, and always come home with too many books. I must be the Queen of the Overdue Fine at my local branch. Another late book? Put it on my tab!

I'm using my little book journal to record the books I've read. It appears I've read twenty books thus far in 2012. Not bad! I'm the kind of person that has books on every flat surface...the kitchen table, the coffee table, the end tables. Right now, my nightstand is piled with books. There really is no rhyme or reason to my book interests...fiction, non-fiction, memoir, spiritual, mystery, you name it.

Today's pile looks a little something like this:

The County Fair by Katherine Valentine (the last book in her Dorsetville series)
As The Pig Turns by M.C. Beaton
Superfreakonomics by Steven Levitt and Stephen Dubner
In The Garden of Beasts by Erik Larson
The Italian Secretary (A further adventure of Sherlock Homes) by Caleb Carr
Too Bust Not To Pray (a must re-read!) by Bill Hybels

My boys are reading as well. Luke is reading "The 360 Degree Leader" by John Maxwell, a book recommended during his summer internship. John is reading "The Night Circus" by Erin Morgenstern, which I just finished this week (it's a little bit steampunk, a little bit magic, and a lot of fun). Sam is reading Mathilda by Raold Dahl. I think my husband is re-reading the Dune series by Frank Herbert. He likes to re-read classics...last year, I think it was all the J.R.R. Tolkien novels.

I have a list of books I'm hoping to read this summer as well:

Bonhoeffer by Eric Metaxes
A Sweethaven Summer by Courtney Walsh
Almost Amish by Nancy Sleeth
Barnheart by Jenna Woginrich
The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton

If you're looking for a fun mystery that combines papercrafting with mystery, check out the latest book from Joanna Campbell Slan, "Ready Scrap Shoot." This one was a real cliffhanger!

Read any good books lately? I'll add them to my list!

So many books, so little time!

  1. As a reading teacher, you make my heart swoon with all the reading going on in your family! I haven't put my list together yet. I agree, so many books, so little time! We still have 2 weeks left of school and I am trying to get a bunch of paper bag albums made for my students to decorate and bring home to record their special reading moments over the summer. :)
