Feeling Patriotic
In honor of Independence Day, we proudly displayed our red, white and blue.
I think if you have a colonial house with an eagle adorning your entryway, you better make sure you're flying your flag on every possible occasion!
Not to be outdone by the doorway, I made sure that the window boxes were looking patriotic, too!
Red geraniums, white petunias, and spikes of blue salvia...with flags, of course!
The family room's fireplace mantel carries the patriotic theme all summer long. I've had this corrugated metal flag for years. It was a Pottery Barn clearance item that used to hang in my son's bedroom. I think it looks great in our new colonial home.
It wouldn't be complete without a Longaberger basket...made in America!
Independence Day seems to signal the halfway point of summer. The turn of the calendar. The "oh my goodness, school is starting next month" feeling that propels me to take a look at my summer wishlist. Am I reading enough books? Check. Taking kids to the park? Check. The pool? Check. The ball games? Check. Planting flowers in the garden? Check. Eating on the patio? Check. Am I exploring and enjoying the new city with the family? Check.
No hurries. No worries. We have plenty of sunny, carefree days ahead. I'll wave my flag of summer freedom and enjoy the moment!

Happy 4th...on the 6th! The house looks lovely, but I was surprised to see that the eagle remains...wasn't that on your first to go list? Some things just belong :)
