Dealing With A Drop Zone
Do you have a drop zone in your house? It's that place that just seems to accumulate stuff you don't know where to put anywhere else.
This weird little cubby in my craft room has been a drop zone for two years. If I didn't know where to put something, I put it here...a box of books, empty shipping containers, bins. The worst part is that you got a pretty good view of the drop zone as soon as you walked down the stairs into the basement. Not pretty.
Many years ago, there was a christian writer named Emilie Barnes who used to write and speak on topics about home and family. I heard her speak at a conference, and there were two things she said that have stuck with me all these years.
1.) Don't pile it. File it!
2.) Don't put it down. Put it away!
I wish I could say I follow these rules, but honestly? I hear these words when I'm doing the exact opposite. I tell myself "I'm just going to put this here and deal with it later." And then later becomes a long time later.
Tell me I'm not the only one that does this!
This weekend, I decided to deal with the drop zone.
I took some measurements, looked online, and decided on this shelving unit.
It was so easy to put together. No tools, no screws. Just insert poles, stack, and done.
Now this corner is so much neater! All of my bins and totes fit perfectly, and I have lots of room to spare.
I have a few more "drop zones" that I need to deal with in the future. The kitchen island and kitchen table are famous "pile it" centers, as is the top of my desk. Hopefully, I can come up with a better system for mail and papers and such.
The craft room is organized and ready for crafting! And that's a good thing, too, because I have a lot of scrapbook projects I plan on tackling soon.
It's Tuesday, but it feels like Monday. Hope you have a great week!

Very nice! Sadly, our house has more than one drop zone. 😑 Emilie Barnes spoke at our church many years ago. I remember her well.
