The painting continues!
This month, we have moved on from the basement family room to the basement bathroom, and finally, the basement bedroom. My husband has been painting ever since the furlough started, and I'm amazed at how much he has finished in just one month!
Sam's room in the basement is the biggest bedroom in the house, with the biggest attached bathroom and the biggest walk-in closet. It's so NOT fair. But that's the price I'm willing to pay for first floor living...smaller bedroom and bathroom and closet, with no stairs. I'm lazy that way.
His bedroom was not a terrible color, in my opinion. It was a nice warm, golden sort of tan. It just wasn't an inspiring place for a teenager.
Sam's room has a really nice view out the window that showcases the pine trees, woods, and marsh. Pretty!
We took the cues from nature and decided to bring in some pretty greens.
I also used the IKEA bed linens, pillows and curtains for our inspiration.
We decided to do something BOLD this time. A BOLD evergreen feature wall, with complimentary white walls to balance it all out.
And here it is!
Of course, I'm showing it to you now, while it's still pretty and uncluttered with strings of LED lights and posters all over the place. Clean and pretty, before the teenager invades the space. ha ha ha!
We used Benjamin Moore Lafayette Green for the feature wall, and Benjamin Moore White Dove for the other walls. We cannot recall ever painting walls in a shade this light! But I really do love White Dove. It is creamy white and soft, and doesn't read too gray or too yellow. I may have to use this in another place in my house, I like it that much! Craft room, perhaps?
I had to wash and hem the IKEA curtains, but we really like what a statement they make on that wall!
Did I mention that Sam is a teenager? Now that we are in quarantine, he splits his time between online classes (AP tests this week!) and lots of gaming with friends.
He also spends a lot of time with music. He's really very talented! He plays the piano and keyboard, and lately he's been playing a lot on his ukulele, which has lead to an interest in guitar. We are hoping to find some kind of seating option for this wall, maybe a bench-like sofa that isn't too futon-y. Somewhere for him to sit and strum on a guitar.
Sam's room has an adjoining bathroom that is also accessible from the basement hallway...a sort of Jack and Jill bathroom with two entrances. You can see the door behind the gaming chair.
The colors in the bathroom flow nicely with the bedroom, too. We're adding a little more green to tie the two spaces together.
I found this cute modern botanical wreath at Target for $10. I'm also looking for some kind of art print for this room, maybe with a dog theme.
Another job crossed off the quarantine list!
Thanks for visiting the cafe today!
It looks great!
