Our local quilt shop, The Quilting Season, had their annual garage sale last Saturday here in Saline.
It is such a simple, wonderful concept. Shop patrons and locals donate their unused and unloved crafting supplies. The shop organizes them all, sets up the sale, and advertises the event.
All of the proceeds go to Saline Area Social Services, who then earmarks these donations for the needs of local children at the beginning of every school year. New shoes, new clothes, book bags, school supplies...even sports participation fee scholarships...which are very pricey!
After the sale, the shop finds good homes for everything that is left over. They give to art teachers, they give to senior centers, they give to the local resale shop.
This year, the shop raised over $8000! How wonderful is that?
...and some Homespun Elegance patterns.
This year, the shop even had donations of quilts, which they had priced and hung for sale on clotheslines. So many beautiful hand-crafted quilts!
I did not take enough photos...big boxes of yarns, table after table of fabrics, sewing notions, books and patterns. It was a lot of fun to sort through it all.
Time to get crafty!
Sounds like s win-win for all. Fun things to buy, and the proceeds go to a good cause!
