Self Care

I really hate the term "self care". I hesitated to even use it as the heading for this blog post.

Self care often has an underlying element of self-obsession...as in "self-centered".

There is selfishness (you know the sort of person who makes it all about them ALL the time), and then there is just plain old "taking care of your health".

After a LOT of moves, it seems like so much work to find new doctors and make appointments. But in the end, it has to be done.

I found a new doctor, had a great visit, and feel better about staying on top of health issues.

Like I said, this is my year to get stuff done!

I even got a hair cut this week, and it feels great!

I've added some new fitness routines to my day. The stability ball, resistance bands, and weights are really helping to strengthen my core (hello, abs!). It's nice to have something to do indoors during the polar vortex days!

Self care can be physical...exercise, nutrition, etc. But it can also be mental. Eliminating negativity. Choosing joy. Filling our minds with the good things (Philippians 4:8-9!). Reading good books. Making happy things. Keeping our hands and minds busy. Reading the Bible every day.

Along with all of those important doctor appointments, I am also putting happy things on my calendar. A stamp camp in March. A trip with my husband to warm destinations. Plans to visit my Indiana son. Good things.

In the end, self care is vitally important because if I am taking care of this body that I've been given for the time that I have, then I can use this body to serve others and love my neighbors, too.

Self care=others care

  1. Good points! Much better than sinking into the abyss of "who cares." Love your new haircut. 🙂
