A Changeable Frame for Finished Needlework

Happy Monday, café friends!

Today, I want to show you a project I finished for displaying some of my Lori Holt Stitch Cards. These stitch cards come in four packs, and each has a theme. This one is a garden theme. The question: how to finish and display them?

I wanted something that would allow me to swap these out for the seasons.

I found this long framed piece at Meijer, originally $25, marked down to $12, and when I went to pay for it, only $7. Perfect!

It was cute on its own, but I didn't need a Bless Our Nest sign.

I was pretty sure these wooden die cut words would come off with a little prodding, and they did. I used my heat gun to re-activate the glue underneath, and then gently pried the words off slowly.

I decided to paint the background to cover the imperfections.

I started with a black base.

But the black base looked a little too harsh, so I added a coat of dark grey to soften it a bit.

Next, I finished off each card, adding some rick rack trim. Then I attached two strips of magnets to the back, and two strips of magnets to the frame where I wanted it to be placed. The hot glue gun helped.

Now, I can easily take them off and change them around.

I made a bow using some gingham from Joann's.

A fun, fairly inexpensive framed needle art project for all seasons!

Thanks for visiting the café today!

  2. Great solution and your redo is so clever! I've wondered about stitching small items and how to finish them off.
