The Difference Between Hay and Straw

Good morning, café friends! I made eight more Christmas cards to add to the stash. 44 in total!

Today's card features a stamp that I have loved for a long time, but only got recently. $3 on a buy/sell forum!

There is something so sweet about this smiling baby Jesus! It reminds me of this verse from Colossians 1:9: "For in Him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell."

We know from Luke that Jesus was born in a stable, wrapped in swaddling cloths and placed in a manger. A manger is a feeding trough for animals. Animals eat hay, which has a greenish cast to it. Straw, on the other hand, is used for bedding and lining the animal's stall, and it is golden.

Picky, I know. But when we see nativities, they often put Jesus on a bed of straw.

Not my Jesus! He is resting pretty happily on a manger full of hay.
