A COVID New Year

It wasn't a rockin' New Year's Eve here at the cottage. Sore throat, body aches, fatigue, but no cough.

And then fever, but no cough.

I honestly thought I was dealing with strep, but the Urgent Care said "Let's just do a COVID test first." And sure enough, it's COVID.

Yuck.

Day five now, and I am starting to feel better.

My husband is feeling fine, and Sam is feeling fine, but we are going to be laying low for a while. Sam decided to stay home and work remotely, as he has friends who've recently tested positive, too. And let me tell you, the Urgent Care was quickly packed yesterday morning, with over two dozen cars lined up into the street to do the drive-in testing.

It seems the holidays were spreading more than just good cheer.

I thought I'd share a few things that have helped me this week. It's probably a good idea to have some supplies on hand, because no one ever plans on being sick, and if you are, then you sure don't want to go to the store!

Tylenol/Advil, tea and naps. All of these things helped immensely.

I wish I'd had a better stash of decaff teas on hand, because the last thing you want is to be all jittery and over-caffeinated when you should be taking naps instead.

Easy comfort foods: cans of chicken noodle soup, Jello, saltines, honey and lemon for the sore throat. Lots of citrus for that Vitamin C.

Sam brought me a can of Vernor's, and it really helped my throat last night. Michiganders swear by Vernor's as the cure-all for everything!

Cough drops and hard candies helped, too.

Comfy socks! Sam got me these Cozy Cabin socks for Christmas, and I love them!

I spent a lot of time on the couch, watching movies, and catching up on magazines that I didn't have time to read over the holidays. Word search puzzles, Pinterest, and cleaning up my photo files and emails.

It also helps if you have a friend who likes to snuggle and nap, too.

Stay healthy, café friends!

  1. What a way to ring in the new year. Glad you're on the mend now. Your recommendation of naps when sick is spot on! Every time I or another family member feels ill, we've found that allowing our bodies to sleep as much as needed brings speedy healing. In almost every instance of illness, doing this has given us a "turnaround" time of just a day or two! Sleep is SO good for a sick body!

Your blog is one of my favorites. I love your tips, the peeks in to what you are enjoying, and your wisdom. Thank you so much for sharing your gifts!
