Looking for fresh inspiration for your home? You need to check out the newest book from Marion Parsons! I found this one last week, and knew it had to come home with me.
If you follow Miss Mustard Seed and her blog, you probably already knew that she'd released a new title called "Feels Like Home". Marion Parsons had published a book a few years back about her historic Pennsylvania house, and it was lovely. I own it! This new book highlights her new home in Rochester, Minnesota that she transformed from typical suburban home into something quite special!
The book not only highlights her home, but rooms from homes of friends and fellow bloggers, too.
What makes this book so special? It highlights traditional décor. Not trendy, just time-worn and elegant. Antiques. Collectibles. Cozy. Warm.
Which brings me to the new trend. Have you heard of Grandmillenial style? It's become popular among millenials recently. Basically, a lot of folks are tired of fast-fashion, disposable décor in their homes, and they want their houses to feel warm and cozy, like Grandma's house. They want something more sustainable, that has been curated over time.
If you wait long enough, a trend circulates and comes back in style!
Here are a few things that are incorporated in Grandmillenial style:
Pretty dishes and china on display!
Plaids and checks mixed with florals.
Needlepoint and embroidered pillows and linens.
Boxwood, wicker, rattan.
Natural wood grains, mixed with painted furniture.
Touches of blue and white.
Antiques and collectibles mixed with contemporary pieces.
Marion's style leans to European traditional...warm woods, painted woods in muted tones of blue and green, buffalo checks and prints, things with pretty patinas.
Erin Napier of HGTV Home Town also incorporates a lot of this style with a Southern flair. I think her homes are so sweet.
It is frigid cold outside today! I think I will curl up with a latte and this book.
Blessings, café friends!
For the first time in my life, I'm a trendsetter lol. Looks like a delightful read! The highest compliment about our home is to be told how warm and cozy it is. Not beautiful. Not gorgeous. Warm and cozy. My Grandma excelled at this and I adored how I felt when at my grandmother's home. When in decorating doubt, I ask myself, "What would Grandma have done?" and then I do it lol!
