Saving on Gas, Spending on Coffee

How are the gas prices in your neighborhood? They get worse every week here. I filled up the other day at $4.89/gallon (Sam's Club), and my husband told me by that evening it had jumped to $5.29. Yikes! Will it ever go down?

I could see the prices of everything escalating last month, so I decided to do something proactive.

I ordered a new bike helmet (from TREK/Electra, like my Townie bike) and a new backpack from L.L. Bean.

I live in a very bikeable and walkable community, and I decided it was time to start leaving the car in the garage and taking the bike out instead.

Today, I had a book to return to the library and a small package to take to the post office. I put both in my backpack and asked Sam if he wanted to tag along.

After we finished our errands, we biked downtown for a latte and scone. Yum!

The town was busy today! The middle school children were all walking to the Dairy Queen for an end of year treat, and at Carrigan Café, the young fives class had walked over for ice cream. Lots of bikers, dog walkers, and strollers out in the nice, mild weather.

A good way to spend the day, and no gas required!

  1. So smart! Do you remember Sewickley when you lived in Pittsburgh? That is a walkable and bikeable town like yours and that's exactly what I've been doing, too - to the Y, to the library, to the farmers' market, etc. I'm hoping to get a nice tan out of it this summer lol.

    1. I loved Sewickley! I also think it was a little flatter there, closer to the river. Am I right? McCandless was pretty hilly! We either had to drive our bikes to North Park, or my husband drove downtown and biked there, too.
