Butterflies in the News

I read a sad story last week about the declining monarch butterfly population. Researchers said that the monarch population has declined 85-95% since the 1990's. That's shocking! They feel it's probably due to the application of herbicides and pesticides. They are encouraging people to plant milkweed and other plants to bolster the declining numbers.

I have had a lot of butterfly activity in the garden this week! So many different varieties!

I tried to photograph the monarch, but he was too fast for me!

One of my favorite visitors was this hummingbird moth. It was awesome! He's about as big as a hummingbird, with a proboscis that he uses to gather the nectar, flitting from flower to flower. I took a video of him, and I will try to post it tomorrow.

I made a butterfly card this week!

It's hard not to feel joyful when watching butterflies in the garden!

Hope your day is joyful, too!
