A few years back, I decided that I was tired of dyeing my hair. I was always a DIY gal, switching from semi-permanent to permanent, and always swapping out for that elusive perfect color. It got to be a chore. So I decided to grow out as much of the old color as I could, and then cut my hair short and let it go gray.
It wasn't a dramatic gray. It was just sparkly strands of silver throughout, but mostly around my face.
A year or two ago, I started to notice that my hair was really thinning. I could see scalp in sections, and I had lost a lot of volume. I tried layered hair cuts to disguise it, but it didn't help much. I would find clumps of hair after showering, and I was shedding constantly.
Two things happened in January. First, I had COVID. And I was sick and tired of feeling (and looking) sick and tired.
Second, I started adding these Nature's Bounty gummies to my daily routine, along with collagen (I often take this just for the relief it gives my joints). A few months of consistently taking these, and I noticed a big difference in my hair. The shedding stopped, and it started feeling much fuller.
Around this time, I also remembered something about dyeing your hair...it really plumps up the shaft of the hair and gives it more volume. So I went back to a semi-permanent dye (the kind that washes out after a month with no demarcation lines). Wow. It made a big difference! I usually shampoo every other day (with dry shampoo between), so this means that I can keep a color for 6-8 weeks. I use Clairol Natural Instincts.
My hair looks and feels so much healthier now! As for the color, I think it's pretty close to my natural shade, and works well with my skin tone. Sometimes, gray hair can make your skin look washed out.
I still haven't found the perfect stylist in my area, so I will often cut my own hair. (Did I mention the DIY streak in me?) I look at the price of a hair cut and think "That could buy a lot of craft supplies!" LOL!
So there you have it. My Hairstory! Hope you enjoyed it...and maybe it gave you some laughs! 😀

I know when my daughter had Covid, she lost some hair too...and she has LONG THICK hair! I will mention the collagen to her! And my DH insists that I keep dying my hair, so I guess that's a good reason to continue, right?!
ReplyDeleteThat is a good reason!
DeleteYou and your hair look fantastic! I LOVE your checked shirt, too!
ReplyDeleteAnd, yup, Covid can make you lose your hair. In fact, just a couple hours ago I asked my sister-in-law who has owned a hair salon for 15 years why my hair was falling out in clumps suddenly. She asked me if I'd been sick with a fever in the last 3 months and I said yes and she said that's why so much is falling out. She's seeing it lately in a lot of clients. Thanks for the collagen tips, Mary Rose! You are always a wealth of helpful information!
Helpful info from you SIL. That explains a lot!
DeleteYou look great and the supplements/dye look like they make a difference. I quit coloring my hair 9 years ago. I also used the semi-permanent and miss the body it gave my fine hair. I had been coloring my hair for 35+ years and just tired of the process. Vikki H
