I Climbed A Mountain!

Last week, while the snow was falling here in Michigan, my husband and I took a planned trip to Phoenix to soak up some Vitamin D. Sun!

On Day One, we decided to conquer Camelback Mountain. And let me tell you, it is not for the faint of heart!

I'm glad I didn't see this sign until after I'd done the climb! Extremely difficult!

And here's why. The first half of the climb has something resembling a trail. But the last half? It's basically rock climbing, trying to find a foothold and handhold.

This is trail?! I felt like Tom Cruise in a Mission Impossible movie!

But the views cannot be beat!

We celebrated at the top with Delta's Biscoff cookies!

It's one thing to climb up the mountain. It's another thing to climb down. Lots of prayers that we didn't fall off that mountain!

The climb up is all about hamstrings and arms. The climb down is all about quads and glutes!

Not bad for a 55 year old!

I can now say I climbed a mountain. Will I do it again? Nope! Will I brag about it for years to come? Yep!

Blessings, café friends!

  1. Good for you! It's quite an accomplishment, and you've definitely earned bragging rights.

  2. Go, Mary Rose! Those skies and that sunshine had to have made climbing that mountain worth it. Feeling the muscles burn and work hard is quite satisfying, don't you think? Your husband looks happy - I bet he's proud of you!

  3. So proud of you! We climbed Misery Ridge Trail at the Smith Rocks in central Oregon four years ago and like you I will brag about that for a long time but probably now at 72 not do it again.

  4. I came back to say that our oldest daughter just sent us photos yesterday of her climbing Camelback Mountain, too. She's out there to work at the Super Bowl (at the NFL Experience and she gets to watch the game for free since they don't work during the game!!). I had no idea she was going to hike this and when she sent a photo I said, "Hey, my friend Mary Rose just climbed that!"
