Spreading Comfort, Love and Chicken

Sometimes, you just need to hug your children.

Yesterday was one of those days.

After the horrifying events at Michigan State University this week, we knew that Sam might need a little comfort.

I happened to be in Toledo with my Mom, where they have tons of Chick Fil A restaurants nearby. I bought Sam the special heart-shaped chicken nugget tray, and we drove it up to campus to meet him for dinner. I could tell he enjoyed the treat!

I also delivered some Valentine's goodies...one bag from me, and one bag from the Christian Education ministry at church. How sweet was that?

We walked around Ann Arbor, just talking and eating ice cream and reflecting on the sad world we live in. Sam has a lot of friends at MSU, and it has hit them hard. He told me they are holding a vigil today at UM's campus.

He's been reading the psalms recently, so as we left, I told him to read Psalm 46 that night.

"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear."

My heart hurts for all the families affected by this tragedy.

  1. My heart hurts for the families, too. It's been a weight on me since I heard of it. Last Christmas (2021), 2 students at Embry-Riddle (where one of our daughters goes and a school you said Sam had considered) turned in a fellow student because he had told them he was going to shoot up the school. The police caught him as he was leaving his apartment to head to the school. I found out about it only when my daughter texted me, "I'm ok" with a photo of the arsenal the boy had in his backpack. The more we remove God from society, the uglier things get. I pray for a revival and for hearts to turn to Jesus!
