I finished another needle art project this month!
This punch needle project was three-quarters of the way done. I don't know why it took me so long to take it to completion, but it did. A few years, maybe? It's hard to see, but at the bottom, it says "Give Thanks".
I found this frame in my stash, and knew it would be perfect. I think it may have come from my parents house when my mom was downsizing. It kind of has that 1970s look about it. :)
After the punch needle was complete, I folded the fabric back and glued it in place with special crafters punch needle glue. Then I glued it to a piece of overdyed felted wool, adhered it to a board, and popped it into the frame.
I think some of the supplies for this project were purchased with my sister, Tina, when we went to the Country Living Fair in Columbus.
I have this one propped on top of the piano. I noticed this morning that it's sitting next to two cards from Tina, one that says "Forever Friends".
Tina went to her heavenly home two years ago today. Sometimes, it feels like it's been decades of living without her here, and sometimes it feels like yesterday.
I am still learning lessons from my big sister. The other week, I decided to organize my needle art supplies and all of my floss from various companies. One of the organizer boxes held floss that Tina had gifted to me shortly before she went into hospice care. I noticed that Tina organized by number, not color, the way that I'd been doing it. But I got to thinking Tina's method made a lot more sense. It is so much faster and easier to pull colors for a pattern when it is all in a numerical order.
I did the same, and filled a bunch of floss organizers in this way. (But I kept Tina's box intact, because sometimes, I just like to open it and see her handwriting and think of her handiwork).
Tina was an amazing quilter and seamstress, knitter and crocheter, and whiz with a needle. She really was an artist. I feel connected to her when I am working with a craft, too. Craft shows and art fairs, coffee shops and fancy boutiques. We had so much fun exploring together. I miss that.
I wonder what kind of beautiful things she is creating in heaven.
I'm so thankful for my Forever Friend. She is one of my collected treasures waiting for me in heaven.
These are beautiful words and memories about your sister. I love your phrasing..."one of my collected treasures in heaven." The last couple days I've been missing my grandmother, who died 3-1/2 years ago. She made the holidays special by having everyone in her and my grandfather's little 2-bedroom home. It was like the fishes and loaves - there was always miraculously enough room, no matter how many new family members had been added! She is my collected treasure in heaven.
