Many years ago, Arby's restaurants offered these Libbey Christmas wine glasses to anyone for something like $1 with a purchase of a beverage. My Mom-in-Law, Shirley Ann, and I must have gone through the drive through four times that weekend just to get them!
And here's the thing. I still love them! They have a gold rim and a white etched wintry scene that makes them perfect for the whole season.
And look at how sweet they look with my new/used Johnsons Bros winter china plates!
But just like my need for more holiday plates to accommodate more guests, I also needed more wine glasses for the addition of "ladies" to our table.
My re-sale shop will pull out the seasonal items for the front section of the store. I've been checking, and lo and behold, I found some! Two tall goblet glasses and two short cocktail glasses. (Sadly, there was a set of eight cocktail glasses, I told myself I'd get them the next day, and when I went back six were gone. Sigh! He who hesitates is lost!) $2 each.
It turns out these are now a collectible item. And lucky me for, you can find them also on places like Poshmark. I found four matching wine glasses there for a deal. So I now have four wine, two goblet, and two cocktail.
I think I will use the goblet and the cocktail as candle holders on the table this year, maybe putting a little battery-operated tea light in each one.
I'm having Christmas Eve dinner "catered" this year. And by "catered", I mean a simple order from a local restaurant of big Greek salad, bread sticks, and a big pan of mostaccioli, enough to feed ten. Who doesn't love Italian, right?
I like fussing over making things pretty, but I don't like fussing over food. I like to cook and bake, but not when there's too much pressure and stress involved. This solves that issue and keeps the holiday relaxed and happy.
Cheers! Or as the Italians say, Salute!
Aha, you've discovered the wonder of my little holiday secret - catering! For several years now we've had our Thanksgiving dinner catered and we are doing the same for Christmas Day. For Christmas Eve, we are going to a steakhouse in downtown Pittsburgh after church with our daughters and my parents. I will bake cookies and cinnamon rolls over the next two days, though, for Christmas morning.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your resale find! I bet you'd be so fun to go thrifting with!
Those glasses are beautiful! I have some Dansk tumblers with snowy trees on them that I dearly love.
