Weekly Journal

One of my goals for 2024 is to do more "out of the box" art projects to stretch myself creatively. One way to make this happen is with a weekly journal.

On Sunday evenings, I grab my Archer and Olive journal, my Tombows, and my Le Pen marker, and I jot down a few things that happened that week.

It might be the weather, or an inspirational thought, or a new project I've been working on.

It could be books I finished reading, or the things I spotted on a nature walk.

Funny how coffee and tea seem to make it on every spread. Go figure!

I would say my illustration style is pretty primitive, but that's me! I'm not going to be a commercial artist, but I do admire them. Susan Branch, Jane Maday, Susan Winget...so many talented artists out there!

I'm thinking of signing up for a watercolor class that's being offered locally next month. I'm also considering an online class in hand lettering. Both of these ideas would help me in my quest to "use what I have" in my Year of Plenty.

What would I do without my hobbies to keep me growing, especially in the long gray days of winter?

Blessings on your Monday, café friends!

  2. This is so fun, getting a peek inside your journal! I love the drawings you made with the entries. You are really growing yourself this year. I hope you blog about these experiences - I just love it when people share what they are passionate about!
Your Year Of Plenty gave me an idea. I subscribe to a monthly card kit from Club Scrap and while the kit does not need stamps to complete the cards, the company still releases stamps each month that coordinates with the card and scrapbook kits. Your "plenty" posts made me think, "I should look at the stamp release each month and shop my stash for similar images." I'm pretty sure there will something similar in the shelves of stamps! A large part of the creative fun is taking an idea and using what one has to recreate it.
