Here's an important life lesson: make time for fun.
Seriously. Even if it means canceling plans or bowing out of obligations. If you can find windows of time for a little joy in life, especially during the busy holiday season, you have to do it.
My husband works in the retail market, so his time is very limited. He gets one weekend off this month, and last weekend was it.
I suggested we do something fun and festive, but not too far away. We decided a daytrip to Frankenmuth was just the ticket.
Frankenmuth is known as Michigan's Little Bavaria. Settled by German immigrants, the town is full of European charm. We visit Frankenmuth about once a year, but I don't think we'd ever been there during the Christmas season.
Oh my word. The town was PACKED, but it was so festive. I can't imagine a more perfect location for holiday festivities.
Our first stop...coffee and hot chocolate!
Our second stop...waiting in line for the amazing chicken dinner at Zehnder's Restaurant!
The line was long, but fun! We could see all the horse drawn carriages with their lights and jingle bells passing by.
We got seated in a room we'd never been in before called The Terrace. It was smaller and quieter, a little more intimate than the big dining hall. It is now our favorite, and we will request it every time!
I loved the decorations of the orange slices and garlands of greenery!
I got my photo taken with Drumstick, the famous mascot!
We did some shopping and strolling in town.
We took a quick tour of the beautiful nativity display at historical St. Lorenz Lutheran Church. Stunning!
We ended the evening with a walk through Bronner's, the giant Christmas store!
The best part of the amazing chicken dinner is that you get to take the leftovers home! It was a feast!
I have a LOT of obligations on my calendar in the days ahead. Story assignments, concerts, practices, birthdays, Christmas cards, family visits. I'm glad we found the time to spend a little festive day together.
Blessings on your Monday, café friends!
Your sheer delight and excitement in the day was such a joy to "hear" in your writing! What a beautiful memory. Those photos would make a great shadowbox of memories.
