And let's be honest, we will go anywhere the good food can be found!
And did I mention the pastries? Baklava!
The traditional music and dancers were fun, too.
One of our favorite parts of the evening was the church tour.
The church is only about 20 years old. When it was constructed, they hired a professional iconographer from Greece, who took nearly three years to hand-paint the icons inside the sanctuary. It was stunning!
The dome, depicting Jesus and the prophets of the Old Testament.
It was visually overwhelming and awe-inspiring at the same time. We learned a lot about the eastern orthodox traditions.
Just a couple of empty-nesters having a good time on a Friday night.
This week, Ed and I are heading to Ft. Wayne, Indiana for a little sight-seeing. It's part fun, part work for me, but we always enjoy our time visiting the Hoosier state.
Happy Monday, café friends!
Baklava! Spankopita! Stuffed grape leaves! Greek food is delicious.
ReplyDeleteI was blessed to grow up with a Greek next-door neighbor (gia gia we called her) and she was always cooking Greek dishes for us. One of my best friends throughout my school years was Greek and I'd go to her church's festival every year (the gyros, oh my word).
Now, there is a Greek store (Little Athens) just 2 miles from me and I walk there a couple times a month to refill my olive oil bottle and to get spicy feta dip and gyro salads.
The church you toured is stunning - those paintings!!! That is a labor of love and worship.
Have fun in Indiana!
