Summer Reading

It feels like summer has finally arrived. Officially, it begins this Saturday. Unofficially, it seems to arrive some time after Memorial Day, or whenever the weather finally cooperates.

I start thinking about my summer reading list this time of year. And let me tell you, I have a big stack.

I've been very intentional about my reading this year, fitting it in whenever I can. I'm adding a lot of new-to-me authors and genres, too. Fiction and non-fiction. I've also been cleaning out my own shelves, and adding new titles from thrift shops when I find them.

To motivate myself, I signed up for the summer reading program at the library. They are using the Read Squared program that lets you track your reading, add reviews, and earn prizes.

I'm adding my library reads, and also the titles I'm pulling from my own shelves.

I have an ambitious pile.

Do you have any books to recommend to my pile?

  2. Oooh, I signed up for our library's summer reading program, too, and it's the same theme as yours!
Mark Twain by Ron Chernow is what I'm reading now and I'm close to being finished. Never read any of Twain's books but. I enjoy Ron Chernow's writing. Twain was an incredibly interesting, frustrating, and amusing man. His family story later in life brought me to tears but it's also difficult to read of him making the same mistakes SO many times!
Deana Raybourne's Veronica Speedwell mystery series are phenomenal! Set in the Victorian era, they are rich with detail from that time period with a heroine that breaks the mold. The books are laugh-out-loud funny and there's a slow burn romance in them that will make your toes tingle haha!
Reading is the BEST!!! I hope you blog about specific books you are enjoying, Mary Rose.
