Bookish Things

I've been on a reading adventure this year, discovering all sorts of new authors and genres, podcasters and vloggers and fellow book lovers. I've attended book sales and scoured shelves at re-sale shops. I've requested new titles from the library. And of course, I can't resist popping in to independent book stores, too.

I found this book at one such shop in Holland, Michigan last month. Miranda Mills is a YouTube vlogger who talks about life in the English countryside while sharing her favorite books and finds. This book was released just recently, and it's oh so lovely. It's a seasonal collection of quotes and excerpts, along with linocut prints. A great book to peruse when you have just a little time to fill.

Other books I've read and enjoyed recently:

Maria! by Michelle Moran

A more in-depth look at the life of Maria Von Trapp, along with a better picture of the story behind the Sound of Music.

Miss Pringle of Fairacre by Miss Read

If you like Mitford novels for the simple life and characters, you will love Miss Read.

The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield

A strange, gothic tale. A famous author reveals her mysterious past to a young biographer.

The Telephone Box Library and The Village Green Bookshop by Rachael Lucas

Two light reads set in the English countryside. Some romance, some drama, some fun.

South of the Buttonwood Tree by Heather Webber

A little bit of magical realism, this tells the story of a woman who finds an abandoned baby in the woods.

Your Guide to Not Getting Murdered in a Quaint English Village by Maureen Johnson and Jay Cooper

This funny little book with illustrations is a perfect gift for mystery lovers. I laughed out loud many times.

I have a new stack of library books to tackle next.

I made this bookmark this weekend. I used the bookmark die from Papertrey Ink, then added the sentiments and some pre-stamped images that I had ready at my craft table. This size fits perfectly into an A2 card, making it a fun little gift that is mailable.

What's on your TBR list?

One more thing! Chapters Tea is having a Black Friday sale. 30% their wonderful selections, perfect for gifting to those book lovers, too. With names like A Date with Mr. Darcy and Picnic at Pemberly, you know they will be winners! Lots of cute bookmarks, too. Check them out!

  1. Ooooh, thanks for the book suggestions! That bookmark sums up my life philosophy lol - I often tell my family that a little tea, a little reading, and.a lot of Jesus can fix anything.
I'm currently re-reading the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon and am on book 4 Drums of Autumn. The series has everything - romance, action, adventure, beautiful prose, science fiction (because of the time travel), and history.
Also, thanks for the heads up about the sale. My daughters love to read and occasionally drink tea so it will be fun to get them some from Chapters.

  2. I had to come back to add - when requesting from my library your book suggestions, I realized I read The Thirteenth Tale a couple years ago. It was very good! I'm looking forward to the rest of the titles coming in.
Libraries are some of my favorite places. When traveling, we go to the local library and local grocery store to meet locals and get a good feel for where we are!
