December is a busy month for many people, but for retail families it can be chaotic. I have learned to be very deliberate during this month, balancing a full calendar of obligations with a few moments of light-hearted fun.
My husband had two days off this week, and we made good use of those 48 hours. We visited family. We put up the tree (not decorated yet), and we put up the outdoor deer and snowman to complete our Christmas lighting.
And one afternoon, we made it to the Toledo Zoo to see their amazing Lights Before Christmas display. We grabbed our hot cocoas and enjoyed the lights and exhibits.
I'm glad we found the time to make this happen. Last year, we went with all the kids on Christmas Day, but this year we will likely be more scattered.
I have plenty of items yet to come on my calendar. Articles (too many!), a holiday concert, church events, downtown holiday events, and a college graduation. And next week I'm meeting up with one of my online crafty friends to spend a fun day in Marshall.
Are you being intentional this Christmas, or do you take each day as it comes? What are you looking forward to?
Time to go fluff the Christmas tree!

We are a retail family, too and the weekend after Thanksgiving can be crazy if there are IT issues! Even if there aren't, my husband still must spend extra time monitoring systems.
ReplyDeleteOther than that, we take each day as it comes. We like blank calendars that leave wide open spaces for anything to happen. We just bought plane tickets to go to Florida next week to visit a daughter who can't be home for Christmas and the bonus is we get to attend her boyfriend's college graduation and see the Trans Siberian Orchestra with her and his family!
