A Week in Arizona

Hello, cafe friends!

I thought I'd share with you some photos from our recent spring break trip to Arizona. We spent the week in Scottsdale, Phoenix, Sedona and Flagstaff. Wow, what an amazing state! The mountains were beautiful, and the variety of climate was quite surprising. We traveled to Phoenix, where the highs were in the mid to upper 80's, and where the desert was in bloom and the cacti were everywhere. Then, just a few hours north, you are in Flagstaff, where the mountains are snow-capped, there is snow on the ground under evergreens, and the highs barely reached 50.

We had to pack sunscreen and shorts, along with sweater fleece and winter hats!

The Desert Botanical Garden was so cool!

Can you see that mountain? Camelback Mountain. Sam and Ed hiked it one morning, while I stayed in the hotel and had a lovely Starbucks coffee with fruit salad, egg sandwich and my Bible by the pool. It was a good morning for everyone.

The air was so fragrant with scent of blooming trees and shrubs.

We caught a spring training baseball game. Chicago Cubs versus the Red Sox. Cubs won.

Sunsets were amazing.

A quick peek at Frank Lloyd Wright's winter home, Taliesin West. Didn't get to go inside because tours were sold out. Maybe next time!

Had a fun day in Old Town Scottsdale. Sam had to buy the hat and poncho. He's currently having a Clint Eastwood moment. 😊

We may have had a cerveza or two here.

Red rocks of Sedona!

Yes, Michigan's Mackinac Island fudge recipe...in Arizona!

Hiking in the Oak River Valley...stunning!

We took our future aerospace engineer to Lowell Observatory for some awesome star gazing.

And then it was off to the Grand Canyon, where I quickly learned that many of the trails have no guard rails. NO GUARD RAILS! I had some real issues, and I think my husband is just now getting the circulation back in his hand because I squeezed all the blood out of it that day!

That hat was quite a conversation starter wherever Sam went. lol!

I don't understand how people can visit with little children. Honestly, I could barely manage with my teenage son! I even had a hard time watching OTHER people's children dangling too close to the edge, let alone watching Sam as he gazed out at the overlooks.

It was a really fun trip, and I am so thankful we did it together. I am also thankful that I have a teenage son who is such a good sport about vacationing with his old parents. He may have called me a Fun Terrorist at the Grand Canyon, but that's okay by me. The good Lord watched over us and blessed us in many ways on this journey.

I have more stories to tell about this trip, but I think I will save it for later this week.

Did anyone else travel over spring break?

Blessings on your Sunday, cafe friends!

  2. What an adventure! The news reported that 3 tourists fell to their deaths in GC in the past week or so. Let your son rethink his Fun Terrorist label with that sobering news. For my 50th we visited Phoenix and Sedona and then on my 65th visited friends in Scottsdale area and bought an RV! Glad you all could come out west for spring break.
