COVID-19 Plan: Paint ANOTHER Room!

After my sweet furloughed husband finished painting the basement last week (photos on that to come!), he told me he was taking a break from painting for a while. And then rains came, and with no biking in sight, he got bored.

"What color do you want to paint the bathroom?" he asked me.

Good question!

We had about a third of a can of Benjamin Moore Wythe Blue, and a third of a can of Benjamin Moore Palladian Blue. Not enough in either can to cover in two coats.

That's when I had a brilliant idea. Why not combine the two, add a little white to the mix, and come up with a custom color?

We are calling it "custom" instead of "cheap". This saved us $60 in paint, and the results worked!

I mixed some samples, tweaking it with some more white until I got it to the color I was hoping for.

I needed a color that would match the blue and yellow tiles featured in the shower stall, while also looking good with the floors tiles. Originally, the room was gray. The color wasn't terrible, but the flat paint was.

And here it is now:

I need some new artwork for the walls...I'm thinking of a new botanical-style wreath, and maybe a fun dog print. This bathroom adjoins Sam's room, but it is also open to the basement area. I use the sink a lot when washing up after crafting!

It's not HGTV perfect. There's no shiplap or brass fixtures or subway tile. But it is fresh and clean, and that matters.

The next room that will be painted is Sam's room. It's a BIG bedroom, with the biggest walk-in closet in the whole house! And because Sam is a teenager, we are doing something bold and dramatic and IKEA-inspired. We are thinking of white walls with one dramatic emerald green feature wall, and then adding some plants for the botanical look that is so popular now. Think Scandinavian minimalist meatballs, with a little Michigan pop to drink on the side. 😉

But that will have to wait for another day. The rains have gone, the sun is shining, and Ed's bike beckons.

Blessings on your Friday, cafe friends!
