Late Summer Decor at The Cottage

I did a little late summer updating in the cottage. Not full autumn...more of an Indian summer feel.

For starters, I swapped the pastel colored quilt for this quilt with all of its sweet yellows and oranges and olives.

I took the slipcover off the chair and ottoman to wash, and my husband said he liked it better this way. I'm not sure, but it is fine for now if it makes him happy.

Yay! Summer/Fall issue of the magazine got published. I have an article that I wrote about estate sales in this issue. We had to delay publishing because of COVID, but are now trying to catch up again.

So I'm giving some serious thought to painting the hutch green. I'm not a fan of the cherry wood. It doesn't match anything else in the house, and I think it might look better painted...especially after the new appliances come and I make updates to the kitchen. (ETA on those appliances...END of September. Wah! Still no oven!)

I found this cute Treats tin at Walmart, on clearance for $1. Perfect for Jemma's snacks!

This colander is constantly getting filled with produce from the garden!

This is a really nice soy candle that I picked up from Meijer. A good end-of-summer scent.

I flipped the stool cushions over to the red check side, too.

Can you feel summer winding down? Normally, I rush in to autumn. But this year, with all of its ups and downs, I am trying to hold on to summer a little longer.

Thanks for visiting the cafe today!

  3. Your cottage looks like the loveliest place for a relaxing cup of tea and chat! Here in Pittsburgh, our summer temps can last into early October so we still have a ways to go before its truly fall.

  4. Paint it green! I found in my last house which had green paint, carpet or furniture in each room (3,600 sq ft) worked in every seasons and made our home restful. Love your home posts BTW
