Farm Girl Progress

I've been slowly making progress on my Farm Girl sampler this summer. The nice part about working on Aida is that the count is quite a bit larger than linen, making it much easier on these old eyes. It's also much easier to do when taking road trips up north.

Here's my question...do I leave the pattern as is, keeping her as a blond-haired, blue-eyed farm girl? Or do I alter the color to make her a brown-eyed brunette like me? Hmm.

This farm girl has been pretty busy, harvesting and watering and occasionally pruning and weeding.

I've had so many peppers this summer that I've begun to pickle them. I was inspired by my son, John, who decided to pickle the banana peppers from his Indiana garden. I'm such a proud mama! He's growing things AND cooking with them, too! I'm telling you, if there are any single ladies out there in Indiana, my son is a real catch! 😁

I decided to plant some more spinach and lettuce bowls today. I've read that fall is another good time to grow greens, when the temps are a bit cooler. And I need the greens to pair with all of these tomatoes!

Things get a little wild and crazy in the garden this time of year. That's okay...we are in the final months of harvest, and I try to get every last ounce of produce from this small space that I can!

We really believe that for a small investment in the spring, we save a lot of money on all of the produce we grow in the summer. It's so wonderful to go out in the garden before dinner and grab a cucumber or some tomatoes and fresh herbs and whip up something healthy for the family. My husband's favorite? A plate of sliced tomatoes, sprinkled with sea salt and fresh ground pepper and a little drizzle of olive oil. Mmmm! Summer goodness!

Blessings, cafe friends!
