We finally did it! We painted the tile backsplash in the kitchen this weekend, and wow, what a difference it makes in this space!
As you can see, the tile was various shades of brown. There's nothing wrong with brown. It just did not match my décor. We have added a lot of white to lighten our living space, and with the addition of the new white appliances, it just made sense to go with the white backsplash, too.
After checking on Pinterest and reading some blogs, I was convinced that painting would work and save us the expense of re-tiling.
It was a three part process. First, we cleaned the tile with Simple Green to remove any dirt or grease from cooking. Then, we covered the tile in a coat of Kilz primer.
We already had a quart of Kilz, so all we needed for the job was a quart of Rustoleum in a durable high gloss enamel.
It took three coats, but in the end, it looks like it was always meant to be.
We painted the outlet covers to match as well. That saved us from having to replace them.
I love how the clean white sets off all of the red kitchen gadgets.
So pretty!
The next job will be to replace all the cabinet knobs and pulls with either a chrome or brushed nickel to match the appliances. I also want to replace the kitchen sink faucet.
We are hoping that the new dishwasher and refrigerator will arrive this month...fingers crossed!
I think this is just the look I was hoping for in a cottage-style kitchen.
Thanks for visiting the café today!
