It has been damp this summer. Really, really damp! We started out with a relatively dry May and June, but made up for that in July. We have a good chance of this being the tenth rainiest July on record in Michigan.
I started to notice a musty smell from our lower level. It is nice and cool in our walkout basement in the summer. Yay! But during wet weather, it can also become humid. Boo!
Here is what happens to some craft supplies in musty basements. Waah!
All of these cute little button flairs from Lawn Fawn are damaged beyond repair with permanent mildew stains.
I guess this is a good lesson for craft hoarders. Use it, or you just may lose it!
I picked up this product about two weeks ago, and I cannot believe what a difference it has made! In just a few days, the musty odor was gone. I hung the bags in storage closets. It is amazing how these things pull moisture out of the air!
I hear we are returning to high temps this week. That will either dry things out or make them more humid than ever!
Hope you are having a great weekend!
Oh yeah, my craft area is in the basement, too, and I have the same problem. I had to throw out some watercolor shimmer paints because mold and mildew grew on their surfaces and could not be scraped off. Thanks for the tip about the DampRid product. I did not know such a product existed.
ReplyDeleteMy problem is lack of humidity. I keep my inkpads in an airtight box to help keep them from drying out.
ReplyDeleteMy husband's block wall office used to get damp in our Oregon winters. They placed containers with a chalky substance in cabinets that drew moisture out of the air. They were replaced monthly otherwise mold.
