I have something really exciting to share with all of you café regulars:
I won an award for my writing this month!
One of my editors informed me that I had been nominated for the Touchstone Award by the Press Club of Toledo for a feature I wrote about Family Medical Leave Act this summer.
Wow! Like they say at the Oscar's, it was an honor just to be nominated!
There was a big ceremony with dinner and drinks and local press and celebrities...which I did not attend. It was the same week when Sam was home sick, and honestly, I really didn't think I'd win.
Surprise! I did win after all!
As a writer, you often feel like you are working in a vacuum. It's so nice to be recognized by peers for your work.
I began writing over 25 years ago, took a break during our relocation years, and decided to pursue it again when we moved back home five years ago. I have felt so blessed to be able to re-invent myself at this age and stage of my life. Like the writer George Eliot once said "It is never too late to be who you might have been."
I made this card to send to the Press Club. I'm making another for my publishers who nominated my work.
I thought this vintage typewriter from My Favorite Things was the perfect image.
And here is the beauty:
It now sits proudly on the fireplace mantel. Like I told my sons:
😀
