I had an idea floating around in my head last week. I was thinking that our big extended family has not had a proper reunion gathering in quite some time...unless you count funerals. COVID put the brakes on a lot of family parties, and in the years since, it seems as if many of us have gotten into the habit of staying home.
That has to change.
Hospitality is important. We need to connect with people face to face, now more than ever. And yes, it's easier to stay in our pajamas with a glass of wine and a sappy holiday movie on television. But is it really healthier for us? We need social interaction and fellowship!
We were not created to be Lone Rangers.
So after discussing it with Ed and checking the boys' schedules, we have decided to host a Christmas Eve Eve Open House. I figure it's a Friday night, most people have their holiday preparations done by that point, and it would be a good time to meet up and share a drink and an appetizer. Hot Cocoas and cookies, cocktails and crackers. Easy.
I made a stack of invitations using this adorable stamp set from Catherine Pooler in Christmas reds and greens.
For now, I have left the stack at my Mom's for anyone to take who comes to visit. But next week, I am taking that stack and getting them in the mail so that siblings and nieces and nephews can mark their calendars.
I'm in a weekly bowling league with my dad and that Christmas party is in a few weeks. I'm SO excited! On Christmas day, my aunts, uncles, a cousin, and my parents will be over. I LOVE your idea! For years, I've wanted to have a neighborhood open house (there are just 33 homes in our little nook and everyone knows everyone) but my husband is very private so that won't happen. That's ok - I adore having family over!! Have fun with your open house!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I know that I have gotten too comfortable with staying home. I love your invitations.
