I finally got around to doing some mulching in the garden this week. I gave up on having a big load of mulch dumped in the driveway...the garden center was so busy and I couldn't get anyone on the phone. So I went to Menards, where I bought cheap mulch in bags for around $30 and called it "good enough" for this year.
After mulching, I was finally able to get Shirley Ann's frogs in the garden!
This frog from Carruth studios has been in my garden for many years. Now he has company!
So fun!
We are experiencing some drought conditions in our area of Michigan. They reported that it was one of the driest Mays on record, and June is shaping up to be the same. Temps have been mild in the mid 70s, but no rain. Our town has asked residents to curb their grass and garden watering. It's a good thing I've put out some mulch, as they helps to keep their moisture in the soil.
Here's a mulch tip I learned this year.
After spreading mulch, do not water your garden for 24-48 hours. This allows the color stain on the mulch to bake in, and will help to keep the color truer longer.
We are now asked to water our gardens and yards every other day, if necessary, and if possible, between the hours of 8PM and 6AM.
I'm going to do some work in the shade garden this morning. I have a flat of coleus that need planting. Time to get busy!
Hope your day is toad-ally awesome!
I've been working in the yard, too. It's looking nice after a long, snowy winter. We have lots of flower buds on our perennials. Unfortunately, our nighttime temps have gone back down into the 30s, and many of the plants are too big to cover. Sigh.
