Something surprising and lovely happened last month. I won an award for my writing from the Toledo Press Club!
I am so thankful for this honor!
I feel very blessed to have the opportunity to work in this profession. I went to college to study journalism, but after a year, I decided it would be too depressing. Fires, murders, politics...no thank you! I switched my major to French, with a minor in English, and kept my focus on languages.
As a young mom, I managed to continue writing for local publishers as a side hustle. And for more than twenty-five years, that side hustle has continued.
And let's be honest. The state of journalism is still depressing. But I am blessed to cover stories that offer a positive angle instead. Authors, parents, teachers, community leaders, entrepreneurs, home builders, designers, health care professionals. In essence, I just love people, and I love to hear and share their stories.
I made two cards last week. I am sending one to the Press Club and one to my publishers who nominated me. The Simple Stories collection called My Story is just so me...typewriters, cameras, books, bikes, cafes. Yep. All the things I love!
{Today's Brew: Simple Stories paper, crimped frame die (The Greetery), Thanks die (Hello Bluebird), PTI card stock}
George Eliot once said "It is never too late to be who you might have been." So true! Doing what I love...I can't put a price tag on that. I don' have a 401K or a big bonus, but I do feel richly blessed.
Congratulations!!!! You are an excellent writer. How you create a warm, welcoming, homey environment with just words astounds me (and keeps me coming back to your blog!). You look beautiful in the photo, too, simply glowing!
