The Season of Advent

 

The season of Advent begins this Sunday. It is a time of waiting for the Lord's return, as well as a time to reflect on the birth of the Savior at Christmas.

This year, I found the coolest thing! A LEGO Advent wreath!

For many years, LEGO has been offering different Advent calendars. My husband tells me that he's noticed a trend. Many manufacturers are now referring to these as "Countdown Calendars". I suppose when you are offering a beer or wine or cheese a day countdown, it might be more appropriate, as it seems to have drifted from the original Christian purpose into something more secular. That's too bad. 

This kit gave the option of building a wreath for a table or for hanging on the wall. I love that it gives you the ability to make the candles smaller as the weeks unfold. How clever!

I bought a kit for each of my sons and gave it to them at Thanksgiving, along with an Advent devotion. I told them to keep it on their kitchen tables as a reminder.

Sam told me he already built his, but Luke and John are waiting until this weekend, when Advent officially starts on Sunday.

I need to pull out my own Advent wreath, too.
