I've been wanting to work with wool applique again for a while now. I'm pretty sure that this was one of my crafty goals for 2023.
My sister, Tina, had given me a LOT of her patterns and pattern books. I have a whole series of books from Need'l Love and Maggie Bonanomi. Books for every season and holiday! I had fun looking at all of the sweet designs. I thought this Peace bird would be a good project to try. I have a spot in the foyer that needs something wintry and Christmas-y, and I think this will be perfect.
As you can tell, I flipped the design and changed a few things. I had decided to use Heat and Bond, but forgot that I'd have to trace it all in reverse. No worries!
I had a lot of wool felt, some of it from Papertrey Ink, some from fabric shops. I picked my colors, traced them out, attached them to Heat and Bond, cut them out, and then added a little stitching.
And then I discovered my problem. I was using light Heat and Bond, which is stitchable. But heavy Heat and Bond is what you want if you are attaching fabric to fabric. Hmm. I decided to glue it all in place with fabric glue instead.
Now I'm trying to decide if I should add a running stitch around all the pieces.
I'm hoping to find a simple rustic frame from one of my local resale shops. Hoping to have this project wrapped up by this weekend!
My Mom is spending the day with me, and we are going to work on addressing our Christmas cards together. Fun!
