Cabin fever blew in with the polar vortex this week. Wind chills in the negative range...brrr. I've been staying indoors as much as possible, and only going out when necessary.
I've been filling my days with a variety of homebound activities. I write when I can. I clean and sort the house. I fix and repair and clean odd things...like the espresso maker, and the Shark vacuum.
I make soup. Lots of soup. This one was sausage potato pesto soup.
I started a new stitching project. I thought this Valentine-themed pillow cover might be cute for my Mom.
I'm playing my new dulcimer...a lot. This new teardrop dulcimer is a much better fit for my small hands, and it's making all the difference in my ability to reach the frets. I love it! (Now to sell the other one that was too big for me!)
And of course, I play in my craft room. I make cards, scan my supplies, look for items to add to my winter clean-out sale. I also check my inventory of consumables like paper, and glues, and ribbons.
I can't believe that I've exhausted my supply of organdy polka ribbon from Amuse Studio. Their organdy ribbon is the BEST. It ties so nicely. I think I may need to place an order soon.
Ribbon seems to be one of those things that falls in and out of fashion in crafting. I find that certain cards and sketches really benefit from a little bow once in a while. Yesterday's card that featured a tag? Perfect example.
And then I let this girl in and out all day. She loves the cold and snow!
What do you do to combat cabin fever? Any good books or TV shows to recommend?
Well, my friend and I attended a Soup Swap at our local library last night - everyone brought a crockpot full of soup and the library gave us a plate of shooters to taste. 16 soups in all and they were GOOD!
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I have been enjoying Matlock (new episodes return next Thursday).
As for books, I've actually been rereading my past issues of RubberStampMadness magazine enjoying the newest issue. The stamping and personality of the magazine is quirky and I love it!
That is the BEST picture of Jemma! I'm with her - the snow and cold is invigorating and I have kept up walking in it. When I was a runner, I went out at 5AM no matter the weather and in the winter it would get so cold that my stomach muscles would go numb and it'd be hard to breathe!
