Another weekend, another painting project!
This very cold and snowy spring has been good for one thing: getting projects done in the house!
This weekend, we began to tackle the BIG project of painting the great room. Two walls down, and two more to go!
I chose Benjamin Moore Palladian Blue for this room for several reasons:
1.) This is a big room with a sloped ceiling that doesn't get a lot of light, so I needed the Light Reflecting Value to be high. BM Palladian Blue has an LRV of 61, meaning it will throw a lot of light into this space!
2.) I needed a color to blend seamlessly with the other colors we've chosen: BM Philadelphia Cream, BM Manchester Tan, and BM Guilford Green. This color is in the same pastel/neutral family.
3.) I wanted a color that will look good in all seasons. I held up red plaid throws (for Christmas!): awesome! I held up brown plaid and oranges for fall: awesome! I held up yellows for spring: awesome! I held up greens for summer: awesome! It's like a pair of faded blue jeans...it goes with everything!
4.) It's been a long, gloomy winter, and we are longing for blue skies. This color brings the blue sky indoors!
5.) I wanted a color to contrast with all of the white trim in this room. Tan or cream would have been a safe, easy pick for a big open space, but all that pretty woodwork would have gotten lost. This sets it off quite nicely!
And here it is, after the first coat. We couldn't believe how much light came in to this room with just one coat!
And here it is, two coats later!
Here, you can see where blue meets green meets tan. I'm not normally a person who goes for a bunch of different wall colors in a home. But this house has so many varying angles and ceiling heights that I really felt like the color changes made sense.
I LOVE this hallway leading in to the laundry and pantry now. The yellow, the blue, the crisp white: it looks like spring!
We painted the back wall leading to the kitchen:
It's funny, but the color skews a little greener on this wall. You can see that we still have a few more "tan" walls to cover.
I've decided to do the back kitchen wall in Wythe Blue, which is just one shade darker than Palladian Blue on the color card. I think it will look really nice there.
Palladian Blue is definitely a soft blue with a green undertone, which I really love. It's so nice to see the cottage getting the love it deserves! It's turning into a really sweet space, just like I always knew it could be.
Thanks for visiting the cafe today!
I just love your house! You have great taste!!
ReplyDeleteHi There. I’m thinking of painting my living area Palladian blue and am just wondering what the colors were for the hallway transition you posted. We have a Taupe hallway that leads to an open game room upstairs that is the same color and we are struggling with the transition colors. Thanks!
