When The Harvest Is Plentiful

The produce is coming in fast now! Every day, I'm picking zucchini, yellow squash, cucumbers, peppers and tomatoes!

As you can see, it's starting to take over the sidewalk, too! It's like an Easter egg hunt in there! I have to move around leaves to find the hidden gems.

It's more produce than one family can use on any given night. That, and my family will hate me if I start to make too many zucchini and squash suppers. So now, I am sharing the bounty with my neighbors, who are all thrilled to have it!

My neighbors next door were shocked to see so much produce. They admitted to me that they had their doubts when they saw me planting it this spring. A veggie garden? There? In that little space? But with just enough sunlight and vertical planting, I've managed to grow quite a lot.

Last night, I took a big bag to the couple at the end of the street. Their yellow lab, Gracie, is Jemma's best friend, and we're fond of their family, too.

When my neighbors next door return from their trip, they have first dibs on the yellow squash (they heard of a good frittata recipe they wanted to try).

Next, it will be Amy and her family across the street.

And, of course, my church friends who live in the neighborhood. And if I still have more, I will start bringing it to church and putting a basket out at the fellowship table.

Blessed to be a blessing. This is my vocation.

It's so nice to be able to share with my new friends and neighbors. It is a really easy way to build community and caring.

"The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things, at all times, you may abound in every good work."
                                                                                                                             2 Corinthians 9:6-8

Grace to you, cafe friends!
