I read an interview with HGTV's Property Brothers recently where they said never to paint a room yellow. Buyers don't like yellow rooms, they claim.
So everyone wants to live in shades of grey and greige, right?
I'm so over grey and greige. I say paint your rooms in the colors that make you happy.
This office room makes me happy. In the morning, when I typically write, the sunlight streams through the front window, filling the room with warmth. And the Benjamin Moore Philadelphia Cream walls feel like a warm sunrise. This room gives me a cup of coffee and a warm hug.
Grey is not a hugger. Grey is standoffish and aloof. And grey definitely does not give you coffee.
This leads me to my recent home addition. After a trip to IKEA last month, I picked up a few more packages of their super cheap Alvine Spets lace curtains. I have these in the office room and guest room, and decided that I wanted them for the master bedroom, too.
We had previously installed the pull down shades, which are great for privacy and for filtering light. But I really felt the windows still needed some panels to finish them off.
These lace curtains add just a little romance to the room. The wind comes in through the open window and they gently float on the breeze.
Now I know what those Property Brothers would say.
"Granny curtains," they would call them.
But when you live in a cottage, a little Granny can be a sweet addition. Granny's are warm and welcoming, and I bet they bring you coffee AND freshly baked cookies.
That vase of faux hydrangea on the nightstand? I bet Drew and Jonathon would hate that, too.
I love my sweet Granny curtains!
And my yellow office.
And a vase of pretty faux flowers.
And piles of books, obviously.
Home. It doesn't have to be a minimalist manifesto. It just needs to be comfortable.
Painted a small kitchen nook once bright yellow. The paint salesman said: "This is an accent color" as he raised his eyebrows. I LOVED it... so sunny and bright. Your office is wonderful in yellow!
