Forever Home

I've been thinking about forever homes lately.

There's a new Property Brothers show called Forever Home. Whenever I see it, I think to myself "How can they be certain they will live there a long time? No one knows the future."

Oh sure, if we love a place, we like to think we will never move. I loved my Pittsburgh home, and sobbed when I had to leave just two years later.

And here we are, in a new home and neighborhood that we love in Michigan. I thought it could be our long term home. But who could predict that something like COVID-19 would throw the world into turmoil? Will my husband have a job when this is all over? Will he have to get a new job? Will we have to move...again?

I have a friend who is facing a move in the months ahead, and she is dreading it.

I have a loved one who has moved into assisted living, and thanks to the lock down of nursing homes, we cannot visit and make her feel at home.

This Easter, I was singing the hymn "I know that my Redeemer lives", and this verse really struck me.

"He lives and grants me daily breath. He lives that I shall conquer death. He lives my mansion to prepare. He lives to bring me safely there."

Jesus tells us in John 14:1-4 "Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going."

He is the way. He is the truth. He is the life.

He is my forever home.
