This is not my house.
This is a lovely house I had pinned many moons ago as a reminder for future home projects.
I pinned it because it has red brick, like our house, and cream siding, like our house.
It also has beautiful windows, unlike our house. And a pretty front door, unlike our house.
Our house is now 23 years old, and some of the mechanicals are going to need replacing very soon. I predict we will need a new furnace and AC unit this year. We will probably also need a new hot water heater. Big ticket items.
And the windows? Don't even get me started on how much I dislike them! These are crank-out windows that are NOT energy efficient, and half of them can be cranked out but cannot be cranked back in. So yeah, we can't open many of them.
I'm dreaming of energy-efficient double hung, tilt in windows! And panes. I want panes.
And if we are replacing windows, we should probably replace our front door, too.
And probably the garage door.
Isn't it amazing how quickly these projects can snowball?
I don't know how many of these wish list items we can fit into our budget, but I do know that I am going to start getting some quotes for work soon. Spring will be here before too long, and it would be nice to get some of these items crossed off our list.
Our last house was a BIG improvement project from day one. We had to have the entire exterior painted, and we had to replace ALL the windows. And there were a LOT of them. We chose Anderson windows, which were lovely but expensive. We will not be going that route this time. I will be perfectly content with vinyl windows. Also, our little cottage home has fewer windows, so it shouldn't break the bank.
I think the exterior improvements could really change the look of the house, taking it from a typical ranch to a cute cottage.
It is hard to believe that we've lived in this house for six years this June. For a while, it seemed like we were moving every two to three years. We do know that we will likely stay here for another 2 1/2-3 years (in-state tuition!), but beyond that? Well, who knows what the future could hold? That's why it seems important to keep our house in good shape.
For now, I am dreaming...and pinning.
These ideas all look lovely! I actually went to the original pin for the wreath on the craftman's door (we have one) and her decorating skills are gorgeous. Decorating is truly her passion (and gift). My husband and I let projects snowball, unfortunately. We have a small ranch home that doesn't require much upkeep but, still, we say, "Let's go kayaking!" or "Let's go for a long walk!" or "Let's go to Hilton Head!" instead of working on our home. Praise God, things have kept working (our roof is at least 25 years old and our furnace 24 years old).
