Sometimes, life events just pile up, responsibilities bury you, and you just need a refresh.
Ever feel that way?
It's been hard keeping a balance this year. Our aging parents, work, church duties, home jobs. My husband and I have felt like we are in a pressure cooker. We do our best to let off a little steam when we can. He takes long bike rides. I garden and craft. We try not to put too many expectations on our calendars because we can't predict what tomorrow looks like, let alone six weeks from now.
Last Saturday, we managed to get away for a few hours to visit the historic town of Marshall, Michigan. We ate at Win Schuler's restaurant and listened to some music at their downtown festival. I got to visit my favorite stamp shop, Paper and I, while my husband enjoyed a pint across the street at Grand River Brewery. It was a good day.
Yes to this!
And yes to this!
I needed a bible study to help me through this time. I found this book in my pile of To Be Reads. The cover looked like summer. Perfect.
Do I need to be quenched? Do I have a thirsty soul? Oh yes.
I read this yesterday:
"Sometimes we get so busy working for God that we no longer work toward spending time with Him. Only doing for Him. Always pouring out. Never pausing long enough for Him to pour in."
Yep. That pretty much sums it up.
I am making it my goal to be more of a Mary and less of a Martha for the next year. It's time to sit at the feet of Jesus and let someone else worry about who's going to feed everyone.
I think I will make a tall glass of iced tea today and spend some time with this book and with Jesus.
Blessings on your day, café friends!

I pray your thirsty soul is quenched, Mary Rose! There have been times when I'm getting ready to close my Bible and I feel the Holy Spirit telling me to forget the housecleaning or the workout I was going to do and to simply sit at the feet of Jesus - to keep reading and to pray longer. Many blessings to you on your year of being more like Mary!
