Last week was community fair week here in our small town. I had to cover several days worth of events for our local press. It's always fun to visit the animals, check out the exhibits, and speak with the locals, like this dapper fellow!
I started thinking about retirement plans last month. Where will we live? When will it happen? What will it look like?
After some reflection, I've come to the conclusion that I don't want to live in Indiana (even though two of our three sons are there), and I don't know where Sam will end up settling. I really just want to stay in Michigan.
I had Ed visit a new development being built in a town about 30 minutes from here. Nice new homes in a pretty natural setting, a cute walkable town, and much cheaper property taxes than we currently pay. It would be a change, but not a drastic change.
But after more reflection, I decided that it's best to stay put. I really like our house in our neighborhood surrounded by trees and wildlife and good neighbors. I like writing about local events with all the friendly people here. I love our small town...close to amenities in Ann Arbor, but also close to farms and fields and country.
Comfortable. Settled. Blessed.
